Cooking for two is not always appealing – but it can be. But, it’s also a great way to stir up a little romance and get you both in the mood for love and adventures together. You don’t have to prepare a meal that’s entirely made up of aphrodisiacs in order to put you in the mood.
Planning the Menu
The menu is important. When you’re cooking for romance you need foods that are fairly easy to prepare but that are also easy to appreciate. Begin with something simple like shrimp cocktail. You can keep it on ice until you’re ready to eat and it’s a great way to start your meal. A light salad is another great idea to eat before the main course. Arugula leaves are commonly used in salads and have been known to function as aphrodisiacs.
For the main course it’s important to have a complete meal that includes meat or protein of some sort and vegetables. The main meat dish always needs to be one that is simple to prepare and to cook so that mistakes aren’t made that cause stress or ruin your romantic plans for the evening. Asparagus and carrots both make for excellent side dishes to serve with your meal, are easy to prepare, and are both known aphrodisiacs so keep them in mind as you plan your perfect menu.
Dessert is the perfect finishing touch for your romantic meal. It’s wise to choose desserts that can be made ahead of time and enjoyed whenever suits the two of you (as you may not get around to this particular course until long after dinner). Chocolate covered strawberries are almost always a safe bet (unless someone has a food allergy or an aversion to chocolate or strawberries – if that’s even possible). Small bite sized cheesecake bites or pumpkin pie bites are also great dessert ideas. You know, things that can be eaten from your fingers and/or easily shared.
The idea is romance and fun. Be creative and have fun planning your menu AND preparing it.
In the Kitchen
Remember the night is about romance and not about making the perfect meal. If the moment takes you out of the kitchen or distracts you from the cooking, allow it to do so. You can always get back to the cooking later (provided you pay attention to safety and avoid the potential for fires and/or food poisoning).
This is a time when the two of you can reconnect. Use it well.
Can something as simple as a little kitchen romance rekindle the flames of your marriage? You better believe they can get things started. Of course if you’re trying to save your marriage or get your ex back it’s going to take a little more but this is a great start.
